Colin was born and brought up in the
Canterbury area. He attended the Simon Langton Grammar School
before completing a mathematics degree at York University.
After graduation he returned to Kent and joined Burgess Hodgson
in 1992 as a trainee chartered accountant. During his training
he worked on a variety of the firm’s cases and received
training both in-house and at specialised training centres
in Kent and London.
Post qualification Colin decided that he wished to stay in
public practice with Burgess Hodgson as he enjoyed the variety
of the work and the opportunities to work closely with clients.
He worked directly for the senior partner gaining valuable
experience in all areas of accountancy, audit and taxation.
He then decided to broaden his taxation knowledge as he felt
this was a key area when offering advice to all clients. He
passed the Chartered Institute of Taxation exams in early
2000, shortly after being offered a position as a partner
in the firm in April 2000.
Colin is a general partner with a wide range of clients based
both locally and in and around the London area. He has been
involved in a number of start-up businesses giving advice
on accounting systems, financing, VAT, Corporation Tax, Personal
Tax and many other issues.
It is becoming increasing important to produce financial
information on a regular basis and therefore a large number
of his clients produce monthly or quarterly management accounts.
He is involved in setting up systems to ensure these accounts
are accurate and can be produced effectively. Current advice
can then be given on a company’s performance.
Colin lives in Chestfield with his wife Louise and sons Max and Joe.
He is a keen golfer and has been a member of the Chestfield
Golf Club since 1978. He currently serves on the committee
as the Chairman of Finance. He is also a member of the Canterbury
Businessmen’s Golf Society whose members include local
businessmen, solicitors and bankers. Colin is a keen sportsman
with a particular interest in football. His other interests
include music and reading.
